I genuinely feel sorry for the people who work on the customer service lines at HMRC, as not only do they have to deal with wound up people (because the robot you have to spend ages listening to in the beginning who can never understand what your calling for is useless, and goes round in circles) it tells you to use the online service instead - but that's always the reason why I'm calling because the online system is dysfunctional and will put random blocks on your account without notifying you when you try and submit your request for a tax repayment. Then once you've managed to actually get that block lifted you then have to wait 10 working days for the repayment, but they do "random checks" which means you could wait another 12 weeks, of which after then you will have to call HMRC AGAIN to go through more painful rigmarole because their system is so unreliable. Other than that I can say that each member of staff I have spoken to has always been polite so thank you.

I'm wondering if HM Rev. & Customs ever reads these complaints. Probably not, because nothing about their service has been improved over the years. Money certainly can't be the reason for poor customer service, for not being able to hire more representatives to serve the public, to after all for paying them the correct amount of tax. To give help and to make sure. What can one make sure like this. To find us for miscalculation? I can't afford to hire someone to tax for me. An institute, that cares to charge their citizens so much from the money they not even worked for, still doesn't care about the problems that might raise up all along the line, to be able to honestly pay them that huge amount they require, how could be honestly rated? The richest institution has the worst customer service? How can they afford to be so careless? Whose fault it is? Who could be put pressure on? Something gotta change. Many questions to raise in order to improve...

I spoke to Muhammad about complications with my tax code today, and he was incredible! He gave me all of the information I needed and helped resolve an issue very swiftly! Super friendly and polite, he was a huge help :)

I’m convinced they are intentionally rude and try and run through things at 100mph over the phone as both a confusion tactic and also to prevent people from trying to get something sorted vs their absolute incompetency. If there was an actual regulatory body governing HMRC they would be shut down within a week, it’s absolutely scandalous how they operate.

People don’t care about your problems as they are used to hearing it, having to wait 7-8 weeks for a simple UTR number than having to wait another 15 days to get it registered to CIS scheme, how is it possible to change over to self employed if you have to go 2 months getting taxed at minimum 30% until I have that number. Disgrace how I have had to call over 30 times In the last month and get told I need to do something different each time, , 1st week i got taxed 650 on 1700 so I had to hold payment untill I had my number, gone so long without it Im going to have to take over 7 grand at 30% tax. What a disgrace people who are paying tax should be a top priority
